TT #36: collections

Thirteen collections

My hubby always says I collect collections. Perhaps that's a bit exaggerated (is it..?), but it's true that I enjoy the art of collecting! ;-)

  • Dutch stamps - My dad collected Dutch stamps and we always did it together. When he died I took over the collection and continued it.
  • bears - Long before the hype I collected bears. I love (real) bears and I support Alertis and their Bear Forest in Rhenen. I have several collectable bears and a lot of Colour Box / Real Old Bears by Peter Fagan.
  • Tinkerbell - That's no surprise, is it? I love that little pixie ever since I was little. I collect all kinds of Tink stuff.
  • fairies - The fae folk has always appealed to my imagination. I believe in fairies. I have a lot of little statues and other stuff. Amy Brown's fairies and the Flower Fairies are my favourites.
  • business cards - When I worked as an assistent accountant I got a lot of business cards and that ended up in a collection. I also have a lot of different (free) cards for Ron and me from Vistaprint and IceCards.
  • stickers - As a kid I collected stickers in general. Now I have a big collection of stickers to use for scrapbooking or other creative projects.
  • magazines - I read a lot of magazines and I keep the interesting ones, mostly the pagan / spiritual ones, but also ones about the Dutch language, history, nature, animals etc.
  • books - I own a large amount of books, so you could say I collect books in general. :-) Within this collection I have separate collections: Pinkeltje (a Dutch children's book character by Dick Laan); detectives like Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, Mrs. Pollifax, Miss Seeton, Perry Mason, The Cat Who, etc. etc.; and lots more...
  • coins - My dad collected coins and banknotes from all over the world and I inherited his quirk. I also have every common eurocoin from the European countries that use the Euro (except those from the Vatican, San Marino and Monaco: the prices are ridiculous).
  • divination stuff - In my previous TT I showed you a part of my oracle card decks collection, but I also have tarot decks, runes, pendulums and the like.
  • notebooks - I have dozens of notebooks in all shapes and sizes. I use a lot of notebooks, but I have enough empty ones to last a lifetime. Still I can't resist buying another cute one...
  • pens - They belong with the notebooks, *lol*! On my desk I use my father's Parker, in my handbag is my "pagan and proud"-pen, but I have loads of other pens. I have a weakness for fountain pens.
  • cats - I used to collect cat statues but I have sold a lot of those. I know have mainly Bast statues (one big one and several smaller ones). Collection is the wrong word in this case, but I love to have real cats around too. We once had 9 at the same time, right now we stick to 2: Freyja & Bastet.

******* What do you collect?? *******

  1. Hi Tink, been a while since I've come over to your blog! Great list, I too am a collecter or books and notebooks (sketch books too), I can't help it, I see those cute designs and I have to have one! Oh well I could thinkof worse things to collect!

    Have a happy TT!

  2. It's not so much that I collect books as that I decorate the wall of my flat with them. They make a place feel like a home (or a library without the squeaky floors and people going ssssh!)

  3. Fountain pens? Nice, but I prefer roller balls. I've got four, maybe five, and only two fountain pens. (small collection, I know. You'd think a writer would have more, huh?)

I collect books, of course, and the stuff that goes with small children... go figure again, huh?

    Happy TT, my blog friend!

  4. You have some really cool collections!
I collect angels, fairies and wolves.
    :o)

  5. I'm a collector, too, and collect many of the same things you do. I have a bad magazine habit and love cats. My plus-one has about a million notebooks and together we have two million pens (many fountain pens). My biggest weakness by far is Sharpies!

  6. Oh, I love books!! One of my top loves - I read lots!

    Check out my TT.

  7. I'm afraid we aren't much of a cat family so no cat collections here. If you really like business cards... I was going to throw some away... I've got a ton of em :)

I also "decorate" my walls with books. Otherwise, I used to collect precious moments... and I collect snow men. That's about it.

I've got to go with Susan, I'm a roller ball girl :)

When I was getting my last tattoo (a phoenix) I was browsing thru some Amy Brown fairy books and came across the next tattoo I want...it's a baby dragon called Sebastian, holding a lantern, and I thought he was just so adorable!

  9. I believe you DO collect collections! I have several but not 13! I'll bet most bloggers collect books to some degree or another. My TT is also posted.

I'm all about collecting (and sharing) books. I also have a giant collection of Cherished Teddies - some that need to find a home. Any interest in inheriting some of them to add to your bear collection?

  11. Wow you do collect a lot of stuff! When I was a kid I had quite a rock collection, but now I tend to collect books, music, and astronomy/space related stuff. I guess I've also amassed quite a collection of Sharpie pens... Maybe I'm more of a collector than I thought. :-)
    Happy TT!

  14. I don't have huge collections, but I do have seashells that I have in a vase on my kitchen window to remind me of summer and the beach.

  15. Great collections, Tink.
I don't collect much anymore because I moved around so much, but I've a few coins -- mostly Olympic series. I used to collect music boxes when I was a kid. My mom called them dust collectors and got rid of them long ago... :(

    Hi Tink,

    Hope you're all recovered.

Very interesting list. We have so much stuff in my house. I wish I could say it was parts of a collection. Maybe then it would have meaning. Instead, it's simply clutter. I think that's wonderful, too, that you continued on with your father's collection.

    Happy TT Day!

Fascinating blog...I must return and read more in depth. My favorite Tarot deck is the adorable Astor deck, but I suppose it would be considered a bit too cute to be taken seriously for divination (?) I'm more an I Ching gal, anyway.

Where in the world do you keep all these collections, I wonder? My husband Nick (who also posts at T13) collects MAGNETIC business cards; our kitchen is covered with them...but he never takes the other sort. It's come in very useful sometimes.

  18. What a diverse group of collections, you must have a great time scouting for objects when you go on holiday :). I collect cookbooks, and particularly like bringing one back from a trip to some farflung location.

    Happy TT.

  20. Wow, some of those aren't small things to hold. I collect books, pop-ups is my most serious genre, and jam jars [don't ask, it was embarassing enough to explain to the cutie when we married].

  21. Wow. We have quite a few things in common! Except that it's my mom who keeps nagging me about having too many collections :P
I have teddy bears, books, notebooks, stuffed shar-peis, heart shaped pillows, magazines, empty bottles (in fun shapes or when the drink was special), and I believe I could go on. Hahah!

wow, how do you find room for all of that stuff? I collect elephants and it droves my husband bonkers because I don't have room for the ones I have.

  28. Indeed that's a lot of collections ! I have a lot of books too (actually more than a lot) but don't consider it as a collection. Stamps I used to collect as child and teenager (they are still in a drawer) but then I have my cat collection all over the house, lol ! From toilet brush to earings everything is represented ! More than 350 little and big once a sitting or laying around. Do you think now I am a case for a psy ?? Doesn't matter, I continue to collect ! (cats of course)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wow, you must have a big house. ;o)
I am not much of a collector myself - I just love my monthly spring cleaning too much and keep throwing out everything that isn't of immediate use to me.
That said, I love notebooks as well. I keep buying them faster than I can fill them, but at least I am buying them with the intention of eventually using them - plus, they look just too nice not to buy them. ;o)
I used to collect books, but since I found Bookcrossing, most of them have only a guest role in my house until I have read them. I just don't have enough space to keep them all.

  30. Love the list. I have a few collections myself LOL

  34. Oh I LOVE notebooks! And journals! And Pens! And fairies! The really sad thing about the notebooks is that I do most of my writing on the computer so I seldom even use them for anything but obsessive compulsive lists. :D

    Enjoyed your TT!
